In the Museum displays there is a large number of preservants, or stuffed animals in jars, basically of the Greek fauna, for observation and in order to provide information for visitors and raise awareness on nature conservation. Of course there's always the possibility of access for Greek and foreign scientists to perform research of special interest on the collections of the Department of Animal Biology.
It was found in 1968 and is a unit of the Department of Biology, n whose building it is housed, under the supervision of the Department of Animal Biology.
The types of animals that are exposed are mostly chondichthia, osteichthia, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals and vertebrates, while the rest are samples of various invertebrates such poroforon, knidozoon, mollusks, worms, echinoderms, and arthropods.
The objectives of the museum are the following:
- Observation of many different stuffed animals or preserved of Greek and foreign animal fauna.
- Summary or complete information on the exposed animals.
- Reliable information / education in animal fauna or life on Earth generally.
- Seeking to raise awareness and provide advice on environmental protection.
- Research work in special zoological material of the Department of Animal Biology.
