spilea.jpgThe Cave is a rare creation of nature. Apart from the labyrinth of corridors, mysterious tunnels and strange stalactite formations, the "Cave of the Lakes" is something entirely unique, different than any other known cave. The cave contains lakes that are repeated in three levels, which makes it unique in the world.

It is an old underground river with explored length of 1.980 meters. In winter when the snow melts the cave is transformed into a subterranean river with natural waterfalls. During the summer months a portion the river is dried, revealing stone basins and dams of up to 4 meters. The rest of the cave maintains water throughout the year in thirteen basins. The exploited length of the cave, which is can be visited is 500 meters. Passage is provided through small man-made bridges. On the lower floor of the cave human bones were found along with animal bones including a hippopotamus.

It is located near the village of Kastria at Lefkasio Municipality on the main road of Patras - Kalavrita - Kleitoria - Tripoli. It lies about 17 km from the town of Kalavrita, 9 km from Kleitoria and 60 km from Tripoli (tunnel Artemision).
