Experienced sailors characterize the Gulf of Patras as one of the most ideal areas for sailing trips due to the existence of wind streams but without similar strong waves.
Ten local annual races has been organised by the Patras Sailing Club and in early August in Patras and the Ionian is taking place the Sailing Week with international attendancies.
For future sailors Patras has two schools recognized by the General Secretariat for Sports:
- Patras Sailing Club (I.O.Π.). Marina Terpsithea –Iroon Politechniou tel: 2610 423939, 2610 435905. There is an open sea school with boats 30 and 34 feet and close sea school in 7 acres of land and categories for Optimist (6 years and older), Laser Europe and boats 4.7 meters.
- Achaean Sailing School – V. Vrahas Iroon Politechniou 92 tel: 2610 429 698 , 2610 453 642. It features professional and touristic boats.
